Mid-rise Construction

The market for residential and non-residential mid-rise wood frame buildings is expanding rapidly thanks to technological advances that have led to changes in the national and provincial building codes.

The Advanced Building Systems department has played a key role in driving new technologies and regulatory changes. Our researchers are committed to broadening acceptance of mid-rise wood-frame buildings by providing designers and contractors with the tools to facilitate the design and construction of mid-rise wood-frame buildings, while collaborating with stakeholders for an encouraging regulatory environment.

FPInnovations’ Mid-rise Wood-Frame Construction Handbook, comprised of ten multi-disciplinary chapters addressing all technical aspects of mid-rise construction, has proven to be a great tool to assist the architecture, engineering, and design communities in increasing the presence of 5- and 6-storey buildings throughout Canada.
