Market Pulp

Lower production costs. Increased productivity. Mastering new and existing markets. FPInnovations’ Market Pulp members are the first to benefit from new technologies that improve market pulp mill competitiveness.

The Market Pulp research program is committed to helping market pulp producers reduce production costs and increase productivity whether kraft, high-yield pulp or dissolving pulp mills. At the same time, our researchers help producers retain their market share in traditional markets while increasing sales in growing market segments.

With a focus on major manufacturing cost components including fibre, chemicals, energy, capital and maintenance, we identify opportunities for short and long-term savings. Our researchers develop technologies and solutions to improve fibre  supply management and pulp quality and optimize brownstock washing, bleaching, energy and chemical recovery. Our scientists also explore ways to reduce maintenance costs through materials engineering and help our  member companies operate in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner.

Pulp performance and market related initiatives currently benefitting our members:

  • Verification and demonstration of pulp performance in end-use applications using sophisticated measurement tools and pilot machine trials.
  • Identification and development of new pulp performance attributes for new product applications and/or added-value in existing applications.
  • Sustainability assessments, including life-cycle analysis, and providing technical marketing materials to support.
