Event description

Presenter: Bruce Lehmann

In response to the shortage of skilled saw filers capable of tensioning and levelling circular saws, FPInnovations is developing the underlying technology for a fully automated levelling and tensioning machine. While levelling machines are commercially available, they do not correct all levelling problems and are generally considered slow. Automatic tensioning is available for bandsaws, but not for circular saws due to the complexity of simultaneously adjusting stresses in two dimensions.

This presentation summarizes the work done in 2018 which focused on removing the technical barriers to programming a machine to correct tension and level. Examples of corrections to level and tension will be shown, as well as an explanation of improvements to the levelling process.
The goal this year is to work with a commercial partner to complete the development and to build the first version of the machine.
