Summary

Two tests of commercial coatings were inspected after 11 and 38 months of exposure in Maple Ridge, BC. After 38 months of exposure, all product groups showed signs of degradation. Pre-treatments containing an inorganic compound were associated with greatly reduced colour change, but had less of an impact on performance ratings. Degradation of materials exposed for 11 months was much less, with some product quality differentiation just starting to be observed. The presence of bubbles in the finish during application was not associated with poorer performance at this time.
