Summary

Log truck drivers rely on properly functioning and accurate onboard weigh scales (OBSs) to ensure they are maximizing their payload capacity without overloading. Underloads reduce their total revenues, and loads that exceed legal allowances can result in expensive fines. Some mills will suspend trucks if they have excessive overloads, and some will not pay for the overloaded portion. FPInnovations conducted a study on the accuracy of truck onboard scales. Project cooperators were log haulers from across Canada. This Info Note reports on the findings of the study of several different onboard scale systems including the effect on accuracy of operating conditions.
